While many may not consider Peru as the “fashion mecca” of the world, it is in fact a leader in designing and manufacturing high-end clothing with top of the line materials. Many design companies all over the world, such as Lacoste, Ralph Lauren and The Gap, among others, use Peruvian fabric, cotton and textiles to create their pieces.
“Peru is at the forefront of the fashion industry. World-renowned designers come to Peru to manufacture their designs because of three key advantages: 1. A 75-day manufacturing process, 2. The high quality of fabrics like Pima Cotton, Alpaca, and unique blends of Pima Cotton and Synthetics seen in ladies swimwear this season and 3. Since 2001, the U.S. and Peru entered into a Free Trade relationship regarding imports from Peru. Additionally, shipping goods from the Port of Callao, Lima to Miami is less than 10 days compared to 45 days from Asia,” said Mercedes Lacy, Director of Sourcing for J.F.L. Corporation. Mercedes works exclusively with Southern Textile Network in Peru, who has just developed a unique blend of Pima Cotton, Alpaca and Spandex which is expected to be produced for all high end activewear collections coming from Peru this season, said Mercedes Lacy.
