NEW YORK, NY – October 6, 2020 – (LATINX NEWSWIRE) – Maria Elena Salinas, the well-known and respected award-winning journalist and author, CBS News contributor, previously co-anchor of Univision’s nightly newscast, Noticiero Univision, and the network’s news magazine, Aquí y Ahora, will be the Keynote Speaker at the event “Regain our Latino Power – A National Conversation with Latina Leaders.” The multiple date virtual event, organized by Latinas in Business Inc., will take place on October 16 and October 23 from 12:00pm to 2:00pm. Please register here: https://regain-our-latino-power.eventbrite.com.
Salinas joined CBS News as a contributor in 2019, a role in which she reports across multiple CBS News broadcasts and platforms. Salinas has contributed to the network’s coverage of the 2020 election including primetime coverage of Super Tuesday and the Democratic and Republican national conventions. Salinas also anchored the poignant CBS News documentary “Pandemia: Latinos In Crisis,” an hour-long, sweeping look at the Latinx community, along with other communities of color, who continues to bear the brunt of the COVID-19 pandemic while fulfilling essential roles across the country.
“Salinas is the most recognized Hispanic journalist in the United States,” said Latinas in Business Inc. President and CEO Susana G Baumann. “We are extremely grateful that Maria Elena helps us elevate our voices to energize the Latino vote for the November 3rd election.” Salinas will address the topic, “What is next for Latinxs in the US? Future generations and what’s left of the AMERICAN DREAM.”
Other Latina leaders around the country have agreed to speak on behalf of their organizations and bring important information to understand the Latinx current state of affairs in pressing topics such as Minority Essential Workers Dying of Covid-19; Incarceration of Undocumented Children; Additional Funding to Families Who Lost their Jobs; Immigration Reform and Separation of Families; and Financial Assistance to Latinx Small Businesses.

“For low-paid employees who clean the floors, do laundry, serve fast food, pick the crops, work in meat plants, which means having the jobs that keep America running, the pandemic has come with a heavy price. They have been deemed ‘essential’ and that means being a target. Along with blacks, Latinos have taken the hit of the COVID-19 pandemic in California and other parts of the United States, becoming infected and dying at disproportionately high rates,” Baumann said. “We need to energize the Latinx vote to be part of the solution and regain our power. We are not invisible; we represent over 32 million votes and almost 2.6 Trillion market. Let’s get out and vote for our children’s future and the survival of the American Dream.”
