MIAMI, FL — March 31, 2022 — (NOTICIAS NEWSWIRE) — March is Social Work Month. To celebrate it, the Miami-Dade Unit of the National Association of Social Workers Florida Chapter (NASW-FL) will be hosting its annual Social Work Month Celebration and Awards Ceremony on Thursday, March 31, 2022, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The event will be held at the AC Hotel by Marriott Miami Aventura, located at 20805 Biscayne Blvd. Aventura, FL 33180.
Every year, Social Work Month is an opportunity to celebrate and recognize the countless positive contributions made by social workers in our society. Social workers are professionals who are educated and trained to help individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities overcome challenges, enhance their overall well-being, and reach their full potential. They work in a variety of settings, including mental health and community agencies, schools, private practices, businesses, hospitals, nonprofit organizations, and even in the government. There are nearly 720,000 social workers in the United States, a number that is expected to rise by 12% by the end of the decade. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, social work is one of the fastest-growing professions in the country.
The National Association of Social Workers (NASW) is a membership organization that promotes, develops, and protects the practice of social work and social workers. NASW-FL, our state’s chapter of NASW, represents more than 4,200 professional social workers throughout the state of Florida.
On March 31, members of NASW-FL’s Miami-Dade Unit will convene with fellow social workers and community leaders to celebrate the social work profession. Following dinner and a silent auction, awards will be given to honored guests who have made outstanding contributions in the community, including Senator Annette Taddeo (Elected Official of the Year), Osmanny Herrera (Public Citizen of the Year), and Dr. Maria Teahan (Social Work Educator of the Year). Professional social workers (Myriam Ayala and Daniel Alvarez) and a social work student (Walter S. K. Rucker) will also be recognized for their service and dedication to the field of social work. Gaston Bogomolni will serve as the event’s Master of Ceremonies.
