ORLANDO, FL – May 4, 2018 – (HISPANICIZE WIRE) – The Laurita Spina Bifida Project, in partnership with Asociación Para Espina Bífida e Hidrocefalia (APEBI) in Argentina, is proud to announce the launch of #ProjectLatAm, a fundraising initiative to support spina bifida communities in developing countries in Latin America.
The current goal is to raise $2,000 that will be used to purchase medical equipment of vital need (urinary catheters) which will be donated to people with spina bifida and hydrocephalus who otherwise would not be able to afford them.
As a person with spina bifida and as a Latina who understands that spina bifida affects Latinos more than any other ethnic group, this initiative is doubly personal to me,” said Laurita Tellado, founder and president of The Laurita Spina Bifida Project. “For us, it means a lot to be able to provide urinary catheters to people in need, because it is medical equipment of an urgent nature and that is frequently used by many with spina bifida.”
APEBI is a non-profit organization based in Buenos Aires, Argentina, that is dedicated to the development of programs encompassing prevention, support, recreation, sports, and rehabilitation for people with spina bifida and hydrocephalus and other neurological conditions.
“Our organization has international recognition, and is an active member of the board of IF, The International Federation for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus, headquartered in Belgium,” said Elena Monzón de Záppoli, president of APEBI. “For the past four years, we have been working in Latin America and the Caribbean as regional representatives to oversee the creation of interest groups and future associations dedicated to spina bifida and hydrocephalus within the network of APEBI-LATAM.”
This fundraiser will remain open until May 31st, but anyone who wishes to donate can do so anytime at The Laurita Spina Bifida Project’s Web site: www.LauritaSpinaBifidaProject.org.
